New York first time home buyer grants are available for anybody with three or four principal characteristics. These are nothing out of this world and in fact most people fit into the grants programs. These grants are given to people who want to buy their first house inside New York. The money comes from federal funds administered by the state and it is free.
It is time for you to visit city hall or the state grants office in your locality and talk to them. Get the paperwork that needs to be completed and start the process. It is not hard and if you qualify for a grant you will soon find yourself in a new home. This home will belong to your family and not someone else.
Remember that your total household income should be a little over or under the area average income. If the houses you picked are within this range they will be fine. Chose the one you want to apply for a grant with. Make sure the schools in the area are good and that it is easy for you and other members of your household to get to work.
Now that you have several house prospects go to your bank and get the information on loans from them. Let them know that you will be applying for a grant and that you want to know how much you will have to pay the bank every month. The bank should be able to tell you how much the state will give you for the down payment and how much you will need from them.
If you have solved step one and two we will move on to step three which is the ability to prove that you have lived and worked in New York for the past three years or more. You must also prove that you have not owned a house anywhere else prior to those three years. This means anywhere in the United States.
You must also be in good standing with the community. If you have child support to pay, it must be up to date. You must not have standing warrants or any other serious pending legal matters either in civil or criminal court. Your taxes must also be paid and up to date. This is free money and it is for good citizens to take advantage of.
Be sure that once the wheels start turning they will be looking into your life and your ways. It is federal money and the state has to take good care of it. If you have serious legal matters pending or accusations of any crimes you will not get a grant until they are cleared.
If you owe child support to your children you will not get a grant. If you lie on your paperwork you will not get a grant and you may even go to prison. Be careful when you do apply and make sure that you are covered on all these factors. If you get turned away there is a waiting period before you can reapply.
